RU celebrates World Heritage Day 2021

Rajshahi University (RU) has observed World Heritage Day on March 7. On this occasion, teachers, students, officers and employees from all faculties, departments, institutes, residential halls, dormitories and administrative offices of the university led by Vice Chancellor Prof. M Abdus Sobhan laid a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheik Mujibur Rahman at 9.20 am.

Besides, a discussion meeting was held at 10 am at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Senate Building. Former Vice President of RUCSU and prominent politician Nurul Islam Thandu was the chief guest at the event presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan. Among others, the convener of the celebration committee on March 7, Vice-Chancellor Professor Anando Kumar Saha, Vice-Chancellor Professor Chowdhury Md Zakaria, Treasurer Prof. AKM Mostafizur Rahman Al-Arif also delivered speech. Registrar Professor. Abdus Salam conducted the program.

The guests said that the historic March 7 is an inseparable date of the liberation war of the Bengali nation. The speech that Bangabandhu delivered on that day in 1971 standing in the crowd, has been recognised as a world heritage site by UNESCO. The preparation of the final phase of the liberation war started with the call of that thunderbolt and the ultimate goal of the freedom-loving people of all levels was determined. By the blood of 3 million Bengalis and the honour of 2 lakh mothers and sisters, Bangladeshis’ attaied their independence. And its final outline was determined in that speech.

The chief guest Nurul Islam Thandu was given a commemorative crest and the heroic freedom fighter Professor Malay Bhowmik was felicitated.

Online essay writing and speech competition for the students of RU School and Sheikh Rasel Model School were also included in the programmes.
