7 days ultimatum to claim removal of the RU administration
Rajshahi University’s Anti Terrorism and Corruption platform has given a seven-day ultimatum to claim removal of the Vice-chancellor (VC) M Abdus Sobhan and the Pro-VC Chowdhury Mohammad Zakaria. If the demand is not met, they will back to continuous movement naming ‘Save the Rajshahi University Movement’.
They have given the ultimatum from a press conference held at the ‘Amtala’ square in the university campus at 12:30 pm.
Mohabbat Hossain Milon, secretary general of the Chhatra Federation RU unit, said at the press conference, ‘we have been informed by different national and online media that the investigation committee of UGC has gotten the evidence of 25 irregularities and corruptions against the current administration including the VC, Pro-VC and Registrar by 2 rounds investigation. The investigation committee lodged the report to the Prime Minister’s Office, Education Ministry and Corruption Suppression Committee respectively on 20 and 21 October. Nextly, the registrar resigned, but the administration has not taken any steps to remove the VC and the Pro-VC which has disappointed us.’
In a written statement, Milon added, “University is the centre of education, literature, culture and human and democratic values and the development of knowledge. If corruption is going on in the university and the corrupted people are in power, the university loses its authentic identity. A university can not be run by the corrupted people which destroys the image of a university and the learning environment. As the university students we can not accept it even no one of the country will tolerate this crime. Therefore, we are expecting the immediate intervention of the concerned persons including the Chancellor.”
Among others Aman Ullah, Organizing Secretary of the Bangladesh Students’ Rights Council (BSRC) RU unit, Rakib Hasan, Office Secretary of the BSRC and Alhaj Hossain on behalf of the RUCSU Movement Platform were present at the press conference.
